🏊 The new Harry Jerome is set to open on July 25

After a long wait, the much anticipated opening of the new Harry Jerome Rec Centre is almost here. The City of North Van is hosting a free opening celebration on Saturday, July 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., giving people their first chance to explore the facility. Guided tours, live entertainment, food trucks, family activities, fitness demonstrations, sports, arts and crafts, plus opportunities to try everything from yoga and TRX to lacrosse, badminton and spin classes. The official ceremony, including a ribbon cutting and public art unveiling, begins at 11:30 a.m., with the building opening for self-guided tours at 11:45 a.m. More info

💈 West Van Barber collecting used soccer stuff for kids around the world

The longtime owner of West Van Barbershop has spent decades using the sport to support children around the world, starting with a soccer academy for orphaned children in his home village in Lebanon. Since then, his efforts have grown to include sponsoring teams and tournaments in 28 countries, reaching more than 30,000 children. Click to learn more and how you can contribute. More info

🇨🇦 North Van Legion needs help

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 118 is celebrating its 100th anniversary while facing one of the biggest challenges in its history. A mandatory $345,600 building repair levy has prompted a community fundraising campaign to help preserve this long-standing North Vancouver institution. 💦 Splash Park opens fully on July 20

They have been teasing it out, but the splash park at the Shipyards will open and be in full operation as of July 20. It’ll be open daily from 10am until 8pm unless water restrictions say otherwise. More info

Maplewood Farm camps give kids a chance to be hands-on with a bunch of farm animals and take part in all the farm activities. Still spaces available for their full day camps run 8:30am to 3:30pm for ages 5+. More info
