The best things to do and know on the North Shore: September 18 to 24

What’s Happening on the North Shore: September 18 to 24, 2025

Good morning, North Shore Crew! Your weekly cheat-sheet to North & West Van is here. New Here? Subscribe here

🅿️ Pay Parking Has Taken Affect on Lonsdale

What's Happening? As of yesterday (Sept. 17), the City of North Van has started rolling out major parking changes along Lonsdale. Pay parking is now in effect on lower Lonsdale, with central Lonsdale following in mid-October, and the areas around Victoria Park getting pay parking by mid-November. The cost? The first 30 minutes are free, then $1 for another 30 minutes, rising to $3/hour until 6 p.m, $2/hour after 6pm, and free from 9pm to 9am.

What do you need to know? The City is trying to reduce “parking occupancy” to 85% to ensure 1 to 2 spots are always available. For now, pay parking is limited to Lonsdale and roughly 1 block on either side of Lonsdale, as shown on this map from the City. Resident permits are still available, and block-specific permits will be replaced with larger zone-based parking permits. The cost of monthly permits is jumping from $2.10 to $8.33 monthly.

The Takeaway. Watch for new signs on Lower Lonsdale - that's your cue the rules have changed. Revenue will fund public safety and street improvements.
