đ Clay Boobs, Biggest Hike & a Taco Goodbye: Plus 50+ Things to Do on the North Shore this Week
The best things to do and know on the North Shore: August 28 to September 3

Whatâs Happening on the North Shore: August 28 to September 3, 2025
Good morning, North Shore Crew! Your weekly cheat-sheet to North & West Van is here. New Here? Subscribe here

Did you know North Vancouver is home to one of Canadaâs leading community energy systems?
Since 2003, Lonsdale Energy has been a pioneer in community energy. Instead of every building running its own boiler, they run centralized energy centres that provide heat to thousands of homes and businesses across the city.
Think of it as energy carpooling for buildings -- smarter, cleaner, and better for everyone. Their system uses a mix of low-carbon and renewable energy sources, including gas, solar, geothermal, and heat recovery, and theyâre adding even more renewable sources in the coming years.
This made-in-North-Van solution is helping cut greenhouse gases and power a cleaner, greener future right here at home.
If you live in a high-rise built in the last 20 years, thereâs a good chance youâre already connected. In fact, one in four City residents are!

đŁ Help Solve the North Shoreâs Traffic Nightmare: Take this Translink Survey

What's Happening? TransLink is asking for public feedback on two route options for the proposed North Shore-Metrotown Bus Rapid Transit line. The survey is now open and runs until September 21.
The Backstory. The 21-km BRT system would span the North Shore, running from Park Royal, along Marine Drive to Lower Lonsdale, and then down to Main Street where it would connect to Phibbs. The final route would have 16 to 17 stations (nine on the North Shore). Unlike regular buses, the BRT would have dedicated lanes and transit signal priority, meaning they (theoretically) wouldnât get stuck in traffic.
Why is this Important? Complaining about North Shore traffic is a favourite local hobby, but this is your chance to share what you think about the governmentâs proposed solution. Translink says the system could support up to 60,000 daily riders by 2035, with buses arriving every 5 minutes during peak times, more than doubling current frequency.
The Takeaway. This is your chance to influence a major transportation project that could dramatically improve North Shore connectivity. The two route options offer different advantages: Hastings St. provides direct access to Burnaby Heights, while Boundary Road connects to the SkyTrain.

đ The Clay Boob Drought is Over
For the surprisingly large number of readers who've been sliding into our DMs asking "when will that clay boob workshop run again?" Your prayers have been answered. It's happening this weekend. And we fully expect it to sell out quickly, so donât sleep on signing up.
đïž Donate with Confidence
Got clutter that's too good for the trash? Urban Repurpose is setting up shop at North Shore Recycling Centre this weekend to give your stuff a second chance. Bring that pasta maker you used once, the garden gnome collection that's lost its charm, or the vintage Lite-Brite thatâs gathering dust. Friday and Saturday, August 29 to 30 from 9am-3pm, plus every Friday and Saturday in September.
✠North Shore to FIFA World Cup: Letâs Cash In
Last week, we asked about your 2026 FIFA World Cup plans, and - surprise, surprise â many of you are plotting the same get-rich-quick scheme we are. Most of you want to rent out your house to futbol-crazed visitors and flee town with your pockets full of cash. Honestly? Respect.

đŁ Liberty Kitchen's Menu Just Got Upgraded
Liberty Kitchen's new Main Street spot (near Canadian Tire) just dropped seven new menu items: shrimp pesto alla vodka "shellbow" pasta; Tuscan fennel sausage pasta; a fancy caprese sandwich; a Calabrian hot honey pizza; and some new cocktails.
Gluten-free folks, take note: They've got a dedicated GF pizza oven to keep your crust safe from cross-contamination.
Food & Drink News
La Taqueria is closing its North Van location at 1305 Welch Street after more than 10 years on the North Shore. The restaurant, which opened in 2015, will serve its final tacos this Saturday, August 30. The chain will still operate across the bridge: Yukon St., Burnaby, plus a new downtown spot opening soon.
Graydons Cheese Cellar in Ambleside is now offering table service. We stopped by on the weekend for a charcuterie board and glass oâ wine, and watched multiple passersby do double-takes, so we thought we'd remind you about this new spot. It's fantastic and owner Kim is awesome. Check it out.
West Van entrepreneurs Gabrielle Mustapich and Sheereen Price have just launched their 1983 Creamy Espresso Martinis: canned espresso martinis available in BCLs. The team previously created Hardpops boozy freezies, which found success in the U.S. after being rejected by the hard-asses at BC Liquor Distribution Board. Now they're back in BC and ready to feed us our caffeinated boozy fever dreams (in a responsible way, of course). Check âem out.
