Pilates Misconceptions? We’ve Heard them All
"It's just for dancers and soccer moms."
"It's all core work and breathing."
"One class fits everyone."
Wrong, wrong, and really wrong.
At Moving Spirit Pilates in North Van, there’s no one-size-fits-all playbook or cookie-cutter routines.
Instead? They assess how you move, identify your patterns, and prescribe exactly what your body needs. Whether you're dealing with tight hips from too much desk time or prepping for ski season, every session is built for you.
Curious? Book a Pilates Prelude appointment and see what pilates is really about.

🚗 North Shore Resident Launches Petition for Third Crossing as Traffic Crisis Deepens
What’s Happening? Roche Point resident, Cheryl Atchison, has launched a new Change.org petition demanding immediate action from all three levels of government to address the North Shore's traffic congestion. It calls for a comprehensive re-evaluation of transportation infrastructure (including the third crossing unicorn).
The Backstory. Despite exponential growth on the North Shore, the region still has the same two bridges it had 65 years ago. Even the $200-million Lower Lynn Improvement Project had mixed results. Last Wednesday, multiple accidents brought the North Shore to a standstill for 10 hours, and Cheryl wants our different levels of government to address the issue: “I am just tired of traffic, congestion, accidents, etc. dictating where I’m able to go (or not go).”
Why is this important? The petition highlights a critical vulnerability: single accidents can halt all traffic, creating “a potential hazard, particularly in emergencies when response times are critical." It's also affecting business. Landsea Tours stopped bringing cruise ship passengers to North Shore destinations in 2019 because traffic made on-time returns too risky.
The Takeaway. After decades of studies and promises, North Shore residents like Cheryl are taking matters into their own hands through grassroots organizing. There’s growing frustration with the traffic situation, and funding inequity.
You can sign the petition here.

🌠 The Perseids Meteor Shower Peaks This Week
The most popular meteor shower of the year (the Perseids) will peak the night of August 12 to 13. NASA recommends viewing during pre-dawn hours, though they can often be spotted as early as 10pm. Find a dark location away from city lights (Cypress, Porteau Cove) and allow your eyes ~20 minutes to adjust to the darkness.
🛝 New Playground & Park Alert: Topo Park in Central Lonsdale
Central Lonsdale just got a new outdoor hangout spot at East 16th and St. Andrews. The brand new Topo Park has sloped lawns, paths for strolling, plus a concrete slide, climbing wall, and wooden play structure to keep kids busy. [More info]
🐻 Old Bear Spray? Don’t Throw it in the Trash
Now through November 15, take your old bear spray to MEC in North Van for proper disposal. A $12 fee covers the cost of the hazardous waste recycling and a donation to the North Shore Black Bear Society.
