💃 Dance Parties, Cookie Kits & Art Machines: Plus 50+ Things to Do on the North Shore This Week
News & Events on the North Shore - January 16 to 22, 2025
What’s Happening on the North Shore: Jan 16 to 22, 2025
Welcome to North Shore Now, a weekly newsletter containing everything you need to know about life on the North Shore.
We are so happy to have 1,400+ North Shore residents subscribed!
👉 If you like what you read, please forward this to your friends and family, and encourage them to subscribe 🙏
Honestly, we’d also love it if you share it with your enemies! 🥸
Speaking of enemies… 🤨
We’ve gotten a few less-than-positive comments about the art in this newsletter (the animals-doing-human-things scenes and the colourful animals on the headings), and want your opinions…
What do you think of the art? Like it? Hate it? Neutral?
We want this to be a newsletter for the people, so let us know what you think! If we get mostly haters, we’ll look at changing the art.

🎨 Help Bring an Art Vending Machine to the North Shore!
Imagine buying local art as easily as grabbing a snack – that's exactly what local artist, Patricia Flores, wants to bring to our community! This innovative project will stock unique, affordable art pieces in a reimagined vending machine that’s slightly larger than a gumball vending machine, making local art accessible to everyone. If you have a high-traffic space in your business (think coffee shops, restaurants, community hubs) and want to support this creative initiative, reach out to Patricia directly, via email ([email protected]) or Instagram. Let’s make this happen, North Shore!
💃 Dance Party Alert (x 2)
The North Shore has TWO dance parties coming up. If you love to hit the dance floor, and wish there were more places to dance on the North Shore, pay attention:
First up is the Unfashionably Early Dance Party (this coming Wednesday, January 22), an earlier-than-usual dance party where the vibe is unpretentious – wear your athleisure or dress to impress, no one's judging. At $25 per ticket and wallet-friendly drink prices, it's the North Shore's answer to dancing your heart out while still getting home at a reasonable hour. 7pm to 11pm at Fraternal Order of the Eagles, North Van. 19+. [Get Your Tickets]
Right on the heals is Count Me In North Van, on Saturday, Feb 8 at the Shipyards. This is a community-driven dance event focused on learning new grooves, dancing, and great music. Doors at 7, dance lesson at 7:30, dance party at 8:45pm. Live DJ and open to 19+. Cash bar. [Tickets]
A Newish Brunch Spot off Lower Lonsdale
Loam Bistro (230 Esplanade W) is a relative newcomer to the North Shore, but already has some raving fans from brunch aficionados. It’s giving “elevated basics” with menu items such as a bone marrow omelette, lobster scramble, and pistachio French toast. Give ‘em some eyeballs on Instagram and then try it for yourself, Tuesday to Sunday from 8am to 3pm.
Food Truck Alert 🧡 🧡 The Bannock Girl: Friday, January 17
The Bannock Girl will be out on Friday, January 17, selling her frequently-sold-out and much-loved menu. Think bannock chilli cheese dogs, Indian tacos, deep-fried Mars bars, and bannock berry dessert. Find her on the Capilano Reserve on lower Capilano Road from 10am to dark.
Family Doctor Accepting New Patients
If you’re in need of a family doctor, we have it on good authority that Dr. Mehdi of InWell Medical is currently accepting new patients. You can email [email protected] to become a patient - make sure you specify it’s Dr. Mehdi you’re looking to become a patient of.
Know more family doctors who are accepting new patients? Hit reply to this newsletter and let us know - we’ll share in the next issue of North Shore Now!
