Need to Know: Someone Tried to Eat an Eagle 🦅

Last Saturday’s police incident on Lions Gate Bridge turned out to be an eagle rescue. The injured eagle was allegedly taken from Stanley Park by a man planning to eat it. The bird is now safe and receiving treatment at a rehabilitation centre. 😮‍💨 [Read More]

North Shore Women’s Centre has opened applications for their pilot Neurodivergent Empowerment Program, a program for girls and gender-diverse youth in Grades 6 and 7. The program will run for 10 sessions from mid-February to mid-May, and will consist of weekly 2 hour sessions designed to connect, empower, and inspire neurodivergent youth. (North Van - 342 Mountain Highway) Mountain Hwy between Bond St & Crown St will be reduced to one lane in each direction from January 6 to 31, 9:00am to 8:00pm. Expect delays.

(North Van - 1500 Block Hunter Street) Utility works on both Hunter St and Mountain Hwy will result in lane closures. 1 lane of traffic in each direction to be maintained Jan 6-10

(North Van - 220 Mountain Highway) Jan 6-18 Utility works on Oxford St. Oxford will be reduced to 1 lane eastbound only 7am-8pm. Tower crane removal on Jan 9, 7am-8pm, 1 lane on Oxford open for traffic.

(West Van - 25th Street and Ottawa Ave) Expect a full road closure on 25th Street between Ottawa Avenue and Palmerston Avenue for Fortis BC Gas installation.  Construction will take place between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

🌧️ Atmospheric River: Were You Impacted by Flooding?

If you were impacted by flooding during the October 2024 atmospheric river, you may qualify for financial assistance. Deadline to apply is March 13, 2025. [More Info]

🍣 Yohachi Sushi is Closing

A North Vancouver favorite, Yohachi Sushi is closing. Their last day is January 11, so get one last order in if you can! 300-171 Esplanade W.

🥑 🍺 You Can Now Drink Beer and Wine at Save-on-Foods (Park & Tilford)

Save-on-Foods at Park and Tilford has opened a bar. Beer and wine are on tap, and while you can’t drink while you shop (imagine the overspending), you can grab a bite from the food bar and enjoy it with a drink.

🍳 Brunch is Loading…

Steamworks North Shore opened on Boxing Day, but until now they haven’t offered brunch. That changes this weekend, as they’ll launch their brunch menu on Jan 11 (Saturday). Located across from London Drugs on the corner of 21st St. East and Lonsdale.

🏠 North Van Rec Is Running Home Alone Courses for 10+ and Babysitters Training for 11+

North Van Rec has a number of upcoming single day “Home Alone” courses for tweens aged 10+ and Babysitters Training for ages 11-15. At the time of writing, there is space available in Home Alone classes on January 18 and 20 and February 1, 10, 15 and 23, and March 1. Babysitting Training has space available in the single-day sessions on January 12, 19, and 25, February 2, 8, 15, 23, and many spots available in March. Login to North Van Rec’s registration portal, and select “Certifications and Leadership” under the Youth section to see available dates.

⛔ West Van Centennial Seawalk is Closed for Repairs

The Centennial Seawalk at the base of 24th Street is currently closed due to ongoing work to repair the stormwater outfall channel. Work will take place Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. There will be detour signage.
